    Addiction - The Early Stages

Posted by Leah Andres, 4 years ago

I see it, I recognize it, I welcome it. My curiosity with ebooks on my iPod has taken a firm grasp. So far I have been able to contain myself to downloading free books, or books that I don't already have a hard-copy of.

Its hard, I feel myself slipping ... and its a slippery slope, indeed. But nothing can replace the feel of a real book in your hands, or the smell of the pages. My iPod is just convenient ;)

Have a safe and happy New Year, all!

This week I read Dead Witch Walking by Kim Harrison. I have not read anything by her yet, and I found that her writing style is really hard to get into. The story was good, the characters are okay, but I think that they need to be developed a little more.

I have the next book in the series, so I will be reading that one next. I am interested to see how the characters play our.

    Happy New Year!!

Week 1 - Last Night at the Lobster... This book was on a lot of top 10 lists but I didn't get what the big deal was ... And I've worked at Red Lobster :) Actually while reading it in my mind it was taking place at the one I worked at... that was kinda of cool... It is a short book and a quick read - which was great since I had just finished Pillars of the Earth!
Week #2 - Birth of Venus - Loved this book. It was a little hard to get into at the beginning, but after about page 50, I couldn't put it down!
Week #3 - Twilight - again seemed too hyped for me... The story was interesting ... but I didnt really enjoy the writing style too much... I would like to know what happens next, but I don't really think I will be reading the next book to be honest.... Although you never know :)

Have a wonderful New Year Everyone !!

Right, well, I had a lot of time on my hands, so I finished my book for this week (got to love winter break).

    ~.::_Owlsight_::.~

I was very confused at the beginning of this book. I knew it was the second book in the series, but still couldn't help but think I'd missed something.Who are Keisha and Shandi? They weren't in the last book! I didn't much care about them to be honest, I wanted to find out what Darian was up too!
After a few pages, I figured out that this was Errold's Grove and that Keisha and Shandi were new inhabitants. The village had grown prosperous after the barbarian attack that took place in the first book.
(I should mention that this book takes place 4 years later.)
So, yeah, I was confussed at first, but soon got right back into the story. As with the first book, the most interesting part was the end. Though I have to say that I was none to pleased to see Shandi again (she was whisked away at the very beginning).

It's a much better book than the first, but I think it's a shame that after all the talk of Val's wedding that we don't get to read about it. I mean, think about it. Whenever Val is mentioned it is with his wedding. It's made into this big deal by the Fellowship (weavers in Errold's Grove) and Lord Breon (Val's feather and the Lord of a neighboring town) is all "this business with the new batch of barbarians must be finished before Val's wedding! The wedding can not be put off!" and we never even get to read about it.

Overall it's a good book, as stated before it is much better than the first and so far the third one seems pretty good too.

For last week, I read Swallowing Darkness by Laurell K. Hamilton. She is my favourite author, and I have to say I loved the book. It followed along with the rest of the series, and was exciting and hard to put down.

The only problem that I found was that, knowing another book is coming in the Merry series, Swallowing Darkness almost finished the entire series, in fact, it did. Makes it hard to see what the next one could be about...but I can't wait!!

    All in all......2 thumbs up!!

What a great idea! I love to read, and usually can read about a book a week, depending on the book.

Can't wait to start posting my thoughts and getting good ideas!

    The Baker's Boy - J. V. Jones

I received a new iPod Touch for Christmas this year, and since I have yet to be able to find a hard copy of this book, I decided to give the eBook function on my iPod a go.

I still have quite a ways to go on "Beyond the Shadows", but as soon as I finish it, I will post my review of the entire trilogy, as promised.

    Happy reading, all!

I agree, a book a week won't be hard. Remembering to post will be.

    - Week of December 21st:
    Owlflight
by: Mercedes Lackey & Larry Dixon
Decent book, everything of interest happens in the last 75 pages. So far the second book {Owlsight} is much better.

    Great idea!

52 books in 52 weeks is a great idea! I'm pretty busy with the holidays but plan on starting the first week of January. I hope I can stick to it!

    Shadow's Edge - Brent Weeks

I started this one a little late (Dec. 17th), but I should have it finished by the 20th ;)

I'm going to reserve judgement on this trilogy until I have finished all 3, at which time I will post a review. So far, I'm quite amused ... ;)

I absolutely love this idea! I don't know if I'll be able to match your goal of one book per week, Leah, but I'm certainly going to try!

My first one is Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman
