  • Breathe

Posted by Melanie Fishbane, 5 years ago

I have been taking a course where we take sometime to focus on how we breathe. Paying attention to our breath when we walk or talk or sitting. It is an amazing experience. When you can, sit quietly, close your eyes and begin to just breathe. Pay attention to how your stomach (or diaphragm) rises and falls. And just do that for a few minutes. If thoughts enter, it is okay, just let it come and go. It is all about the breathe.

There is a lot out now on meditation and breathe work - particularly because of the rise in popularity of yoga. As well, being in touch with ones breathe is a big part of some ancient Buddhist practices (where some of the breathing techniques I am learning originate.)

With the stressful lives that we lead, I am beginning to see more and more the importance of being in touch with where your breath is. Are you breathing rapidly? Do you even recognize that you are breathing at all? Taking a split second as you are walking to your next meeting and seeing where your breathe is. Pausing and slowing down the breathing will help normalize your heart rate and stabilize the mind. I cannot say that I haven't had moments of stress the past little while, but I think it has helped my overall frame of mind.

Best Thing Anyone Can Do For Themselves

Posted by Shannon Rooke, 5 years ago

...is read A New Earth by Eckhart Tolle. I realize that anything Oprah recommends can get really popular, really fast, but this book is truly the best thing anyone could ever do for themselves. This will help you to learn who you really are at the core and there is nothing like it.

The online classes are extremely helpful as well, but definitely read this book if you get the chance. The concepts can be hard to grasp at first, but once you figure them out, you'll be nodding your head through the whole book, like I do every time I pick it up. It's amazing how the mind functions and the things that we convince ourselves of that take us away from our true essence.
