    Week 2: January 8th to the 14th

Posted by Lady Knight, 3 years ago

So I finished two novels during this week.

    1) "Case of the Missing Marquess” by Nancy Springer

3 out of 5. This would be great for a young mystery lover, but as an adult, I found that while a good idea, it was fully developed. Granted it is the first in a series and I have hopes for the rest, but the Marquess mentioned in the title didn’t even enter into the story until over half way. Enjoyable but not the best of Sherlock Holmes adaptations. Enola Holmes is the much younger sister of Sherlock Holmes, and when their mother suddenly goes missing she calls on him and their older brother, Mycroft, to come to her aid. They soon realize that their mother won’t be returning home and they make plans to make Enola into a proper lady. Not wanting any of it, Enola runs away and soon encounters a mystery that would interest even her elder brother: a young marquess is missing and there is not a single clue to help the police.

    And…

    2) “Airborn” by Kenneth Oppel

5 out of 5. I first read this book when I was in high and loved it. Re-reading it now, it hasn’t lost any of it’s magic! Oppel is a fantastic author and “Airborn” is a great adventure novel for anyone of any age. Matt Cruise is a cabin boy aboard the great airship ‘Aurora’ (in this alternate universe, blimps are the main way of travel) who dreams of one day becoming captain. On this particular voyage across the ocean, he encounters a charming aristocratic girl, Kate DeVries, discovers a new species of animal, faces pirates and encounters all manner of mayhem. Amazing read and one I would highly recommend!

I’m still working on “Gone With the Wind”. 750 odd pages down, about 750 to go….
