  • Canada Reads 2010 finalists announced!

Posted by Fiction Editor, 2 years ago

The new edition of CBC's Canada Reads launched this morning with the announcement of the finalists. The books and their defenders are:

Good to a Fault, by Marina Endicott -- defended by Simi Sara
Nikolski, by Nicolas Dickner -- defended by Michel Vezina
Generation X, by Douglas Coupland -- defended by Roland Pemberton (aka Cadence Weapon)
The Jade Peony, by Wayson Choy -- defended by Samantha Nutt
Fall On Your Knees, by Ann-Marie MacDonald -- defended by Perdita Felicien

What do we think? It's an interesting selection of books, and hopefully the panelists will get some good discussions going.

Get ready, get set, get reading...

I've already read Good to a Fault and Fall on Your Knees and have wanted to read The Jade Peony. I guess now is a good time to pick it up.

Not such an exciting line-up as last year's, in my opinion. Good to a Fault and Nikolski are good choices, but the others have been around too long--and are already too well known--to be on a list like this. I think Canada Reads should be about discovering new books or re-discovering older books that have been unjustly neglected.
