    "Tuesdays with Morrie"

Posted by Noah Miller, 2 years ago

I must admit I picked up this book as an attempt to depart from the authors I have been reading excessively lately. I did not expect to find a book in which one man's search for meaning was so blatant. The power of Mitch Albom's story is drawn from it's universal relate-ability. He is a sports writer whose job leaves him feeling empty and surrounded by cultural ideals devoid of meaning. When he hears of the impending death of his favorite university professor, Morrie Schwartz, he seeks a return to questioning and rethinking the values implanted in him. After visiting his ALS-plagued professor they embark on a final journey together, answering life's big questions that transcend every human being and relationship. Tuesdays with Morrie is the incredible result of that course and is a kind of "Final Thesis." I'll be the first to admit that I never much cared for Mitch Albom nor did I think much of these undersized paperbacks or what the quality of their content might be, but for anyone whose life has been inspired, driven or provoked to rethink your values by an incredible and life-changing teacher, this book is a must.
