  • The Omnivore's Dilemma: A Natural History of Four Meals

Posted by Lindsay, 12 months ago

This month I'm reading Michael Pollan's "The Omnivore's Dilemma: A Natural History of Four Meals". I'm constantly hearing references to this book and finally decided to give it a try. It promises to be a musing on food from farm to fork, and in the final chapters follows the author as he hunts and gathers all of the ingredients for a single glorious meal. But I wasn't very interested in dissecting every boxed food item in my cupboards, and from what I heard the author mostly talks about corn, which I also didn't think I'd find very interesting. But just reading the introduction I was immediately sucked in (mostly because he wrote the book specifically because he found it curious that we don't want to dissect the ingredients in our food). I'm now a quarter of the way through, and I've already brought up anecdotes on corn in what were otherwise very normal conversations. Twice. Overall, this book is an unexpected page turner and really makes you think about how strange we all are about our food.

I have heard quite a few references to this book as well. Sounds like an interesting read.
