  • For Earth Day! Make it Everyday!

Posted by Lotus Johnson, 5 years ago

(First, please forgive me, other group members, for adding more new posts lately, due to computer fiasco, hopefully a little better now)
I'd like to suggest a couple of my most favourite environmental books. It seems that there are more being published all the time, which is encouraging, if people can read and use them!
For the Earth... start small, do one thing different each day. Ride a bike instead of driving your car. Take a bag with you when you go shopping..Think about where the food you are eating is coming from - what did it "cost the earth" to get it to you?
To celebrate Earth Day, today I took the bus and went hiking in the forest!

    • I highly recommend this book, which opened my eyes to really making a concerted effort to eat locally

    • This is one of my favourite books of all time, moving, timely and indispensible

    • I bought this as a present to myself. It is fabulous, even though I have watched it several times I always see something new and interesting

The BBC's 'Planet Earth' series is truly captivating. I second your opinion!

The 100-mile diet is an interesting exercise, though a bit extreme by my count. I would focus on learning where all your food comes from, for sure, and getting as local as possible (like your back yard!) for as many things as possible. Farmers Markets are a great means to meet the producers, and it seems they're often interested in setting up monthly supply runs for the off-season (winter). For the gardener, this is also a vital forum to share and learn.
