The Winter Palace

The Winter Palace | Eva Stachniak

Expectations fall short.

It was an interesting book and I love Russian history but all through the novel I was waiting for some action, after all it was suppose to be about a spy! I felt as though it never delivered on the actual premise and felt like I was reading a nice well written history book. The main character's life barely registered as part of the story line and just the same as the upper gentry treated her, a person barely worth noticing, I felt the author did the same. Not sure if I will read the next book i… read review

  • About Me:

Almost everything sounds interesting to me and this can be a problem because there is just not enough hours in the day to read all that I would like to. I also spend just as much time shopping and researching yet more books to read. I'm a former Coles employee so I build up quite a library and my dream is to have a lovely den someday, with floor to ceiling books and one of those library ladders, a fireplace and a great recliner for those cold winter days. Of which Sk can have it's fair share.

I make it back to S'toon a few times a year, but may not make it back, now until Christmas. It has been years since I have been to northern SK, since the mid 80's.

actually, the surgery fixed something that had been bothering me for a very long time, causing lots of pain, so recovering from it is feeling much better:P but yeah, i can only imagine trying to get better with a tot around:P i'm lucky that i live with my bf, and the bunnies aren't too demanding;)

i'm well on the way to being better:) I had surgery jsut before Christmas, and the initial problem is pretty well gone; now it's just things like the back problems it caused, and waiting for final clearance from the dr. i should be back to work in Feb, which means less reading time, but a more normal life;P

thanks so much:) i take that as a real compliment:) to be honest, i've been working on atonement for a few months:P i love the movie, but find the pacing of teh book much slower. Also, i know i'll cry, and with the holidays and being sick and everything, i didn't need that too:P but i am aiming to finish it this month, so i'll let you know then;)

I had to stop adding books, because I can't possibly get to what is on there especially with all the impulse buys I make when I get to the store.

I would have to argue with you though, YOU have good taste.
