A nice revelation from a horrible book

Yes, like the title says, I think this book is terrible. It's not the violence. It's not the mentions of masturbation. It's not even the unsatisfying ending. I think that it's nice to have a look at a different point of view, one where the villain wins and the hero backs down and runs away (to Canada, though you're not supposed to know that until the next book).
