Great historical fiction - American Civil War

This is an outstanding book in many ways. It encompasses a wide range of topics and does a fine job of blending the history of the 1860s into a truly enjoyable read. The character growth is commendable as the story takes shape around Rose, who desperately tries to find her place in the world. The details of the historical events are rich and descriptive.
