Nobody's Prize

Nobody's Prize | Esther Friesner

the story of Helen of Sparta

The book was good but not great. It was nice to get an idea of what happens to Helen of Sparta before she becomes the very well known Helen of Troy (though not all of the events are accurate), however, I was not fond of Friesners writing style, nor was I content on how she ended the book. read review

Haha wow that's good to know! I did read A Woman Worth Ten Coppers but was disappointed in it...I liked the Orc books better....I think I just found the story to be lacking in depth or something...
Yes I've read all Maria V. Snyder's other books now! She's a really great author...I really love her stuff though I think her Yelena books are still my favorites.
Hmmm I haven't heard of that one I'll have to have a look at it, thanks :)

Awesome! I've read the first Queen of the Orcs book, but that's it from her :) Lol, in return I will say that Maria V. Snyder is my new fav author and her Yelena books are really good! :)

I've never watched the original show but i did watch Star Trek on tv for some of those later series with the main people, and I watched the last Star Trek movie that came out years ago.... but this latest one definitely made a good impression! I'm definitely going to get the DVD! :)

I saw that Sunday for Mother's day but on Friday, I watched Star Trek and it was sooooo good! the special effects were really well done, great acting, funny at times with the lines and full of action!! i kind of want to see it again at the theater.....

    Liz (Midnight Bloom) says:

the movie was good, predictable in that Jennifer Garner and Matthew McConaughey had to end up together but i did laugh a few times and enjoyed it, although some of the lines were a bit cheezy sort of....

thanks! i saw your not this morning but didn't get a chance to reply because i was in a hurry to catch a movie (Ghosts of Girlfriend's Past at AMC where it's cheaper on Sundays if you go before 12) and needed to jot down some books for later... anyways, i decided to pick up Can You Keep a Secret? instead of Remember Me? ! lol :)

lol! I know what you mean about books blending together. The other day I found a vintage publication of Robinson Crusoe and I couldn't decide if I had already read it or just one similar to it...I decided in the end that I hadn't but simply knew the story well because it is a classic afterall. Alas, another book to add to the pile...I have serious issues...

I too adore Jane Austen, two of her books are on my "I recommend" list. I'd recommend them all but that's a bit overkill. It only takes one read to capture the reader. Funny you should mention Gaskell as just yesterday a found a beautiful leather bound copy of her "Cranford". I recognised the name because I've already got her "Mary Barton" on my list. "North and South" looks really interesting too.

pleased to be friends, thanks for the invite. You certainly have diverse tastes in literature. We've got a bit of overlap but also you've got some interesting stuff on here that maybe I'll look at in the future once i whittle down my "plan to read" list...lol!
