A Great and Terrible Beauty

A Great and Terrible Beauty | Libba Bray

Takes you to a magical world.

Growing up in the 1800s, women are expected to be beautiful, well mannered and ladylike arm candy for the men who wish to claim them as wives like prizes and trophies. They should speak when spoken to, curtsy, smile and nod while being prisoners of their corsets. Too bad sixteen year old Gemma Doyle is anything but, she’s rough around the edges with her own opinions and her poor manners. While walking around the markets of Bombay, India with the unbearable heat beating down on her, Gemma is… read review

So, I signed up with plum rewards on the chapters website since my irewards expired a little while ago. When I was buying books, I ended up getting a card in-store under my new email address which had a completely different member number. Since I had a new card, I thought I might as well deactivate my virtual one, right? Wrong. That was tied to my email address used for my online community profile. Bad move. Deactivating virtual card meant me having no access to my account whatsoever.

Overall.. now that the season is done, i thought it was a good one. I think they're gonna hold off on the fairy details until later seasons. That fairy chick hooking up with Andy and wanting to have his baby will tie it in good too lol.

Bill was lookin pretty damn fine. They've gonna get a serious bromance going in the next season probably lol. I've always liked his and Eric's tension together. Hope all is well with you.

sorry it took me so long to write back. Been a busy month and i rarely come on this site when i do get online.

I'm loving innocent Eric, but i'm missing his big bad vampire image too. We did get to see him in his leather get up in Sookies dream with Bill though lol. I think thats been my favorite episode so far this season. Along with a whole bunch of unclothed Alcide lol

I could do without the fairy background stuff. I don't even like it in the books. What do u think?

I definitely liked Buffy over Angel. Guess they couldn't recreate something like buffy again. I'm happy with vamp diaries kinda filling that void on the CW. Secret circles is going to get produced by Kevin Williamson too.. i know he wrote dawson's creek also. So sounds promising. He knows how to make a show last.

Have you watched the last couple episodes of True Blood? I'm lovin' amnesiac Eric more and more lol. He's too damn cute.

  • Stef

    Stef says:

Yes that's the one. Were you a Buffy or Angel watcher before? I'm not sure if the show can fill the Buffy void. But glad they're throwing new things out there instead of over running other shows. Secret Circle has that girl from Life Unexpected. Her names Brittany Robertson. But i really don't care for her much yet as an actress. I just like the witchy vibe of the show.

I saw they were rerunning the tara show on Muchmore music. I loved dawsons creek in HS lol. I have the dvd box sets lol.

Surprisingly, i feel the same way about Bill and Sookie. They do go good together, even though I like the physciality between Sookie and Eric. I wouldn't mind if she winds up with Bill at the end of it. I like the longing and tension between them now. Makes for some good tv.

Tyler Hoechlin really is yummy. He's growing up good.. I remember seeing him on 7th Heaven. He's really filled out.. but still has a boyishness to his face lol.

Jess, where online can you watch True Blood? Need some sites for some friends.

He reminds me a lil of Adam Brody when he was on the OC.

I'm also excited for a bunch of the fall shows coming up. Ringer and Secret Circle. Couple of the FOX shows are catching my eye too. New Girl looks funny. I haven't watched United states of tara. But i'll look out for it. I never seem to catch it when its on.

  • Stef

    Stef says:

I actually just watched the second episode. I'm really getting back into it. Sometimes i struggle to get back into shows after a long break. Are you liking it so far? I'm excited for the Eric and Sookie stuff to really take off as usual lol. But i'm liking the mix of Bill things during it. He's lookin pretty good this season.

Ugh the bachelorette is soo very bad. but once i start watching a season i usually watch it to the end lol. And i like teen wolf. Especially the funny/geek sidekick.

  • Stef

    Stef says:

I hope they get it online right away tonight. I don't care if i work tomorrow lol i'll probably stay up to watch it. Hopefully all us TB watchers can chat about it in the group here or in Sandbox. I think everyones got some high expectations running on this season.

I'm glad PLL is back on. And i'm liking Teen Wolf. That show is surprisingly good. It almost has a Vampire Diaries feel to it. And i watch So you think you can dance and bachelorette. The last is a guilty pleasure its terrible lol

  • So When's that Paranormal Goodness coming out? --- Well let me tell you...

Thanks to a suggestion by Amy, i have decided to start a little group dedicated to upcoming/new releases in the paranormal genre. I have been posting a list on other groups for a while now but that list seems to continuously get bigger and bigger. And i run out of characters. So here i can post my list, and you ladies and gents can do the same as well. I also encourage reviews, info on new authors, news about upcoming books/series and so on.
