The Eye of the World: Book One of 'The Wheel of Time'

The Eye of the World: Book One of 'The Wheel of Time' | Robert Jordan

Robert Jordan WOT series

Like many others, I started reading Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series. I read books 1 to 6 and although I enjoyed the world Jordan had created, his long-winded descriptions of absolutely everything prevented me from picking up book 7. A friend suggested to me that I try the cd versions so I looked online and that's when I found Mike Perschon's review. Mike's review helped me put the series into the right perspective and influenced me to buy book 1 on cd. I must say that his review was sp… read review

This you gotta read. Excerpt>>When Jesus returned to Israel , there was no Nazereth. Only a co-operative village of of Essenes known as the Nazerenes. The title Jesus of Nazereth is interesting as at the time of Jesus's birth, there was no village of Nazereth. No mention in any Roman records or maps. If we take it that the original reference was to Jesus the Nazarene rather than of Nazereth, he is a member of the off shoot of the Essenes. Look at my new review, I bet you buy this book !!

Don't know if you're into Historical Fiction, but based on our recent conversation and mutual interest in history, thought you might enjoy this particular book from this authur. Indeed all his books are phenominal. Please see my review in Historical Fiction group to see if this might be someting for you.

Especially given, as you say, how often the Bible has been re-written.
In my heart I believe the Bible contains many historical events: but accuracy
has to have suffered over the centuries, embellishments and such, or even
translations to other languages to be sure. But did Nazereth exist ? In this
you have to have faith in the Bible as it is too central to the New Testament.
    Just my 2 cents.

re: Nazereth >> Don't forget that "Nazereth" was also known as En Nasira, Japhia, Mash-had, en-Nasirah, Nazerat, Nazareth of Galilee, Nazareth in Galilee, Yafti en Nasra......Nazareth was a relatively isolated village in the time of Jesus with a population less than two hundred....however "outside" of the New Testament, Nazareth is never mentioned until the Byzantine period (4th c. A.D.).
