The Scent Of Rain And Lightning: A Novel

The Scent Of Rain And Lightning: A Novel | Nancy Pickard

A Terrific Book!

What a good book! Set in Kansas, this is the story of the Linder family who own a large ranch and whom tragedy strikes when one of their sons is murdered and his wife is never seen again. Throughout the book, I suspected several people and scenarios for how the murder occurred. And every one of them was wrong! I love it when that happens! This was an easy book to ready and it had a great storyline. read review

The Impact of a Single Event - R.L. Prendergast

Since this book is not yet available on Chapters, I am putting my review here in the hopes that some people will see it and track it down.

The Impact of a Single Event is a new novel by Canadian R.L. Prendergast. This book is hard to find in Canada right now but can be ordered from www.amazon.com. If a book has ever been worth seeking out, this is the book. The story is told through a journal that has been passed along for over a hundred years with various people recording a story … view post

MacFly - I would recommend No Great Mischief; MacLeod is a wonderful writer. I know I enjoyed this more because of my trip to the Highlands and Islands but even without that the book was great. i will post a review this weekend.

Let me know if you find out which Uist your family came from.

    Joanna says:

Hi MacFly -- Just a quick note to find out which Uist your Mac part is from? Have you been there and do you know much family History? I've just started rereading No Great Mischief by A Macleod and since being to the highlands and islands and learning a bit about the history i am appreciating the book differently. I also say the play in Vancouver a few years ago. when did your family come over from Scotland.

Hi MacFly ~ Have you listened/read/watched any Joyce Meyer stuff before? She's a very popular Christian speaker and author with a daily television show. She has a straight-forward manner that is often compared with Dr. Phil's. I'm 1/2 through this book and yes, I would recommend this book and anything by Joyce Meyer. Good, straight-forward, no-nonsense Biblically based advice.

I have read The Almost Moon. It too is unusual with a mix of tragedy and almost comedy. It is in my opinion not quite as good as The Lovely Bones but then I would be comparing apples to oranges. It was a good read

    Hello MacFly!

Thank you for your kind words. It's always great to hear people have enjoyed what I've written. I know it may be a lot to ask but could you add your review to the Amazon website as well? It would be of great help.

    Kindest Regards,

Well, I wasn't exactly stuck there. My daughter, who lives about 1 hr NE of Regina took me there because I wanted to see it, even though they are not filming anymore. The town is Rouleau, a very nice little town SW of Regina, about 1/2 hr or so. I was still in SK when I sent that though. Been having a lot of email problems since I got home so I'm pretty slow to get anything done on the computer. The visit to Corner Gas was great, security guard very nice. Maybe I'll post some photos later...
