Uplifting and Heartbreaking

I have just finished reading The Book of Negroes, by Lawrence Hill. It's a wonderful book. It is not dissimilar from other historical fiction books about slavery. What makes this one of the better ones is that the story follows the life of a Aminata from the moment she is captured until her death. By covering all those years of life, the story and the character of Aminata is enriched like no other character in similar works.
