Monkey: A Journey To The West | David Kherdian

Both a spiritual classic and a great adventure story
2 years ago

Never has reading about Buddhist philosophy been so much fun! This is both an adventure story and a bildungsroman and about Monkey, a mischievous figure that is given godlike powers. There are no limits to the action here - Monkey's cudgel can grow to giant size, and characters can take leaps over oceans and continents. You might argue that this makes it a little silly - that there's nothing really at stake - but Monkey learns reverence and other virtues as he travels across the universe. If yo… read review

Yes, I believe he left when Burroughs was 5 or 6. But the impression he made on Burroughs was so striking that I figured I owed it to myself to read 'Look Me in the Eye'.

Cool! I read about the author in this book called 'A Wolf at the Table' and I became quite interested in him and why he was the way he was.

No way! I LOVE the Mighty Boosh, but hardly anyone knows it over here. I tried to get my boyfriend into it and he could barely make it through one episode. Laaaaame.

Hey, thanks for accepting my friend request.
How was Look Me in the Eye? I've had my eye on it for a while now.
Is your username a reference to the show The Mighty Boosh? Just thought I'd ask.

I just looked up The Diving Bell and The Butterfly and it looks amazing! Thanks so much for the recommendation. I'm going to add it to my plan to buy list immediately. I can't believe the author died three days after it was published.

I hope you have a good weekend. =)
