Red China Blues (reissue): My Long March From Mao To Now

Red China Blues (reissue): My Long March From Mao To Now | Jan Wong

Red China Blues: My Long March From MAO to Now, by Jan Wong
2 years ago

This is a review I wrote last fall and forgot to post. Red China Blues: From MAO to Now, by Canadian journalist Jan Wong (Memoir - Published first in 1996, it has recently been re-issued.) Red China Blues is awesome book! The subject matter, Wong’s talented journalistic style and wicked sense of humour makes for an enthralling read. It captures some of the darkest moments of China’s history, and shines a much needed light on the still badly oppressed majority in the countryside. And y… read review

Chapter's Bargain Tables are my friend, my BFF if you will!

I went to Chapter's this evening to get a book my father wanted for his 75th B-Day. And of course I first had to make a bee-line for the Bargain tables.

And ooooh, what a great day to hit them. I found 4 books for $1.80 each (after irewards but before tax). Yes, I said ONE dollar and EIGHTY cents PER book!!!!!

Okay, enough bragging. Onto my latest haul:

Guantanamo’s Child, Micelle Shard
Hardcover (Non-Fiction)
Published 2008

Tiger Ladies got buried! However, I will dig it out. I have 3 books on the go at the moment, a Mafini, a Cosby, and a Patterson - will move Tiger back to the top!

Wordsgood. I saw your post in CommFocus about anyone being able to click on a link to something you posted & being able to change it. I was kinda confused, b/c no one should be able to change anything you post in a group or on your page, no matter which. Can you show me the link so I can see. This isn't something anyone could do before - that is, unless someone was a group owner, they couldn't edit/delete any of your posts, only comment on them. If they can now, it's a glitch - a big glitch!

effect him too much one way or another, no matter what my mood or sleep deprivation, probably cause he was feral when I adopted him, so I'm more at risk from him than he is from me, even if he is 16 1/2. Life's strange.

I do hope you manage to get some quality sleep - I know you know the difference - I'm off to feed the beast & try that shower thing again. Maybe it'll make me sleepy. OTOH, if it wakes me up, I'll make coffee and read for a while. Yawn!

    Happy Thanksgiving! And Be well!

after 7:00 am. I managed to sleep for about 7 hours yesterday morning * afternoon but have been up since about 4:00 pm yesterday & can't seem to sleep. I've been getting over pneumonia (immunosuppressants - gotta love 'em) so I'm sorer than usual, even. I tried a hot shower, or as hot as I can tolerate cause I'm heat intolerant, & am about to try another one. I figure even if I'm still sore after, it'll help clear out my chest. And the cat is waiting to be fed. Me staying awake doesn't seem to

    do talk to themselves.

As a result of working in the used bookstore for 6 years, and which for over 4 of those yrs I was there was beside Bakka SF books, when it was bigger & still sold used books, I've got a downpayment for a house in books, many of which are cataloged & in storage so I know which box to go to, & some of which are in my apartment, & the rest of which are waiting to be cataloged. A little over 10,000 - maybe 10,500 now since last count. Ouch. So I understand.

Heheheheh (I should qualify, cause my friends know the 'heheheh's have a sort of evil cackling sound to them... not a tee-hee-hee)...

Yeah - I have the same problem with my inner voice escaping, but I figure that given how many people wear bluetooths these days, I don't look as mad as I used to. I did work in a used and antiquarian book store for six years, and I've noticed that just about everyone who has worked in a used bookstore talks to themselves, and most real book fanatics absolutely
