Costello weaves this novel thick with grief and perserverance, the driving forces that keep us moving forward in the face of horror. A stark look at the raw emotion of loss, how we cope, how we fixate in order to survive - and how it can ultimately bring closure and healing. While not entirely a work centered on horror or the supernatural, the darkness of his older works has returned full force.
