Maps and Legends

Maps and Legends | MICHAEL CHABON

Easy on the eyes!

I have to be honest and admit that I initially picked up this book because I liked the way it looked. I did what we are taught never to do - I judged a book by it's cover! The hardcover is wrapped by three layers of paper to comprise the layout of the design. A very cool innovative style that was entirely relevant to the book's subject matter. Michael Chabon is a fantastic writer, but he doesn’t need me to tell him that – he’s already been declared as one of the best American writers by sev… read review

In Search of Captain Zero

I want to tell you about my latest read, In Search of Captain Zero, a memoir and road diary by Allan Weisbecker, who is also known for writing Cosmic Banditos, and many notable articles in surf mag’s during his career.

In Cosmic Banitos, he shares the tales of pot-smuggling by a narrator named Mr. Quark, and provides the present perspective and one of past reflection. In Search of Captain Zero, Weisbecker recounts his former escapades in first person; which are entirely … view post

    You're most welcome!

I think it's great when people can have a spirited discussion from both perspectives of an argument, but sometimes it seems like one side is dominant and the other side isn't getting listened to respectfully at all. No one is expected to change their opinion, but other opinions should be considered, know what I mean?

I'm glad I could make your week! I just thought that you should know other people agreed with you, even if they weren't speaking up.

    Take care!

    Hey Jes!

I've been reading the comments on the discussion about T&C in the Community Focus group, and I just wanted to say don't take them too personally. It seems like some people aren't quite getting what you are saying, and they are responding a bit harshly. You don't seem like the type that would let it bother you, but I just thought I'd leave you a note saying so.

I hope you're doing well. Happy reading!

    Hey Jes!

I worked at the Indigo in the Eaton Centre over the Holiday Season. It was an absolute blast. Met some cool people - especially the managers - and learned more about the world of books beyond what I already knew (since with my other job I do deal with publishing companies).

So, head office eh? What are you doing over in that neck of the woods? How long have you been with the company for?

    Love to hear some more.

    Chat soon.

    Happy reading!

What Indigo in TO do you work at?
Wondering if it was the same one I worked at!

    Hey Jes!

I am actually quite enjoying Comfort Food by Kate Jacobs. It is sort of an interesting book for me because it relates, a whole lot, to the business I work in - the world of celebrity Chefs! Each word reminds me of a day at the office. LOL

So, have you read anything exciting these days?

    Happy reading!

Thanks Jes. I hadn't seen that commercial. But what it doesn't mention are the awful fires in Victoria. I definitely don't want to be there in the height of their summer.

Hi Jes, thanks for your friendship here! Can you clarify what the slipstream genre is? I've never heard of it. I can tell that you have fairly eclectic taste in literature which is very interesting and I hope to get some good tips from you. Have a great weekend! Cheers, Christine

I agree with you, Jes, about Australia. It is a fascinating country. I didn't get to Melbourne, but I do want to return to see much more of the country. I want to get to Brisbane and other parts of Queensland next time.
