His Dark Materials Yearling 3-book Boxed Set: The Golden Compass / The Subtle Knife / The Amber Spyglass [Paperback] | Philip Pullman

A Masterpiece

This may be classified as a children's series, but it has a depth to it that makes it just as intriguing for adults. Echoes of Paradise Lost, combined with a cast of truly unique characters, makes for a book that children can enjoy for it's exciting plot and fantastical elements, and which adults can appreciate for it's profound message. Written skilfully, and with ingenuity (comparable to Milton himself), this has become my favourite trilogy. Number three on BBC- The Big Read- Top 100 books, n… read review

PLAY

For anyone who doesn't know, Samuel Beckett is a genius. I'm a major fan of absurdist theatre, and Beckett is one of the iconic absurdists writers. When I saw this film production of his play 'Play', I almost died. Brilliant acting, brilliant voices ( I love you Alan Rickman) and brilliant directing, all in three giant urns...what's more to love?

Here's the script if you're interested in actually understanding what they're saying: http://www.drama21c.net/text/play.htm

The question interrogates me! To read or not to read that is the question, to read is to travel, explore, educate, and marvel through reams of endless pages and not to read is to enter into a literary menopause. Talk about how books can take over.
