    The House of Comarre series

I read all kinds of vampire stories, from horror to fantasy to erotica. This story, the first in a series of five, grabbed my attention because of the covers (GORGEOUS) but it KEPT my attention because of the action, the dynamic between the two main characters (Chrysabelle and Malkolm) and the fact that I love the villain! The idea of the blood slaves was very interesting and becomes so much more as the story unfolds. This becomes almost a quest type of story and of course that becomes a who can you trust kind of story. This is not simply a romance novel, is what I am saying! If you like Karen Marie Moning or Kelley Armstrong then give these a shot. I would also say, if you have a vampire shaped hole to fill now that the Sookie Stackhouse Southern Vampire series is all done, this is a good place to start

    Magical AND Realistic

I was drawn into the story from the first page. This is a story that contains magic, yes, but don't let that put you off if you don't normally read 'paranormal'. It's not overwhelming. It's very believable. This is at it's heart, a story of two immigrants to NY in 1899. They are alone and don't fit in, even more than most. The Golem and The Jinni have very different personalities and natures but they also have a lot in common. The supporting characters are equally as interesting and have solid background stories. The author, Helene Wecker, has written a rich, detailed and somehow soothing story, about making a new life for oneself when it seems difficult and sometimes even impossible (which is true for any immigrant, perhaps). I really cannot recommend this highly enough. It's beautiful, right down to the font (look closely, it's got a style that suits the Jinni perfectly).

    Easy, fun and cute

I am a grown woman with a teenage daughter and we love this kit. It comes with way more clay than you need to make the charms shown, so you can make extras with no problems (but the clay is inexpensive and easy to find at a craft shop). The instructions make it simple enough for probably a five or six year old to follow and make their own. The young kids will need help with the oven for baking the charms and possibly drawing on faces. I think this craft is meant to be done together with your child, get creative, use different colours and have fun. The tiny food items are adorable.

If you eat, you should read this

I consider myself to be educated about what I put into my body and try to eat quite healthy but occasionally I pick up pre-packed, processed foods. This book has explained to me why they are so hard to resist and how we are in fact addicted to them. Food companies use science and emotion to get us to buy and consume more and more unhealthy foods and Salt, Sugar and Fat are the main reasons how AND why we fall for it. This is not a muckraking book, it is well researched and has interviews with the food industries top executives who are quite honest (and rarely eat their own products). Even if a company WANTS to make healthier options, the public at large will not usually BUY it! Unbelievable but true. I cannot stop talking about this book but there is too much information to just TELL!! You definitely need to read it for yourself.

THIS is the find of fantasy novel that I can't get enough of

This is the first novel by Cargill and I certainly hope it won't be his last. It's the kind of book that, while you are in fact reading it, you FEEL like you are being TOLD a story. We follow the lives of two boys..one a changeling fairy and one a human who happens to 'have' a djinn. It's full of action, danger, friendship and magic with interesting chapters that are taken from 'reports' by an expert on otherworldly creatures. I advise you to read the first chapter in the store if you are unsure. Actually, by page six you should already be under the spell!

Had so much potential, then fell flat

Clearly, the fact that I read this book will tell you that I am NOT a purist when it comes to the classics. Go ahead, add zombies, vampires and erotic sex. However, when you take my favourite of all the oldies and break my cardinal rule of "twisted classics": follow the original story !! , well, then you have gone too far. There may be spoilers for those have NOT read Jane Eyre. I can accept that you don't waste time on Jane's life with her hateful family. I can understand that you only refer to the Lowood school in flashback scenes (naughty but believable) and I can accept ALL the behaviors of Rochester and his unorthodox friends. What was done with Bertha's character was also acceptable. I really can only say that IF the author did not so abruptly END the story, and kept to MY number one rule (which, again may be a bit of a spoiler so let me say that this ending is MUCH more Story of O than Jane Eyre) I am certain that I would have enjoyed it. I was so frustrated when finished, I was SURE that my book was missing pages, I stayed up thinking of a better ending that was more true to the original AND full of erotica. It wasn't too hard. However, I will keep my fan fiction to myself! I have read very many bad reviews, unfortunately I only looked at them AFTER I wasted my time on this.

I cannot say enough good things about this story. It is funny and clever. I am not an expert on world history but I had NO problems piecing together all of the amazing things that Alan has done in his very long life. Somewhat of a commentary on how the elderly are treated in society but mostly an easy to read, old fashioned adventure with the oldest hero ever. The cast of characters is just incredible. The lesson that I learned is that if you are easy going and open minded, whatever you need will be there. And you will be be exactly where you need to be, always!

    More than just 'Chick lit'

This book fooled me..I was expecting a quick easy read, something to cleanse the palate, so to speak, in between other genres. And it seemed to start off that way, only with a more serious subject matter. When the plot thickens (NO SPOILERS HERE!) I was even more intrigued. This book could have become way too "cheesy" but it most definitely did NOT. I was very invested in these people. I will warn you, it's a tear jerker and it is also realistic in the way it presents certain arguments pro and con about serious life decisions. (again, can't say too much). I was attracted by the cover but the content kept my interest and filled my heart.

    If you loved this...

I have to mention that the graphic novel The Escapists, isbn 9781595823618, is based on/inspired by this book and endorsed by Chabon. It was well loved by everyone in my graphic novel/comic book club. I have not read Kavalier and Clay yet but I will since everyone in the club that has already read it said that I HAVE to because it is amazing.

    It's NOT Entirely Unbelievable

I LOVE this book. I would recommend it to anyone over 16. If you love the "end of the world as we know it" type if story, like The Stand, The Passage or The Strain Trilogy, (but without vampires) then this will keep you entertained and engrossed for certain. It's NOT overly "sci-fi-ish" so don't be deterred by the genre.
It takes place in the no too distant future and is pieced together by recorded events by Cormac to tell the story of how "Rob" turned against us and the war that ensued.
People all over the world had a hand in fighting the Robots, many sacrifices are made and true heroes are found among the survivors.
    A must read!
